摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which is improved in an aperture ratio and transmittance by improving image quality characteristics. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device has a liquid crystal layer which is interposed between an upper and lower substrates facing each other apart a prescribed distance and includes plural liquid crystal molecules, gate bus lines 21, data bus lines 22, counter electrodes 24, pixel electrodes, thin-film transistors 28 and horizontal alignment layers which are respectively arranged on the inner surfaces of the upper and lower substrates and respectively have rubbing axes. At the time of impression of voltage to the pixel electrodes, the electric field parallel with the gate lines and the electric field parallel with the data bus lines are simultaneously formed in unit pixel spaces. The counter electrodes and the pixel electrodes are formed of transparent conductive materials. The spacings between the counter electrodes and the pixel electrodes are so set that the spacings are narrower than the distance between the upper and lower substrates and that the liquid crystal molecules existing in the respective upper parts of both electrodes are both made substantially operable by the widths of the counter electrodes and the pixel electrodes and the electric fields generated between both electrodes.</p>
