PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To emit the light of high luminescence with high durability and high luminous efficiency by holding a layer including bisphenanthreno[9',10':6,7]indeno[1,2,3-cd:1',2',3'-1m]perylene derivative, between a pair of electrodes. SOLUTION: An organic electroluminescent element is manufactured by forming a luminescent layer, and further a hole injection transporting layer and an electron injection and transfer layer when necessary, between a pair of electrodes. This luminescent layer includes a bisphenanthreno[9',10':6,7]indeno[1,2,3-cd:1',2',3'-1m]perylene derivative represented by a formula (X1-X28 are independently a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a straight chained, branched or cyclic alkyl group, a straight chained, branched or cyclic alkoxy group, or an optionally substituted aryl group, or the groups adjacent to one another optionally form an optionally substituted carbon ring-type alicyclic ring with a substituted carbon atom by bonded with one another), and includes a luminescent organic metallic complex and a triarylamine derivative when necessary.
