The polymer-based electroluminescent material comprises polymer with a side chain comprising a substituted anthracene ring. The polymer-based electroluminescent material comprises a polymer of formula (I). y = 0-1; if A = -COO- then R1 = H, F or CH3; if A = Ph-CH2O then R1 = H; R2 = H or CH3; R3 = -(C6H4)p- where p = 0 or 1; R4 = -O-CqH(2q+1) or -O-C(O)- CqH(2q+1)where q =1-20; R5 = -(C6H4)p'-CtH(2t+1) where 0 <= t <= 20 and p' = 0 or 1; n = 0-10; and GR = crosslinkable group such as -(CH2)r-NH2; -(CH2)r-O-C(O)-=-Ph where r = 2-10, sulfoxide or epoxide. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an electroluminescent diode comprising the above material; and (2) the production of the above material.
