摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-efficiency cold-cathode fluorescent tube having a discharge voltage that is as low as 40 to 50 V, and having a starting voltage that is equal to or less than conventional ones, i.e., having a good startup characteristic. SOLUTION: A cold cathode contains at least oxides as an emitter and has a cylindrical metallic base coated on its inner surface with the emitter, the oxides of the emitter being composed chiefly of at least one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Pm, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu, Ca, Sr, and Ba, and oxygen O. The inner surface of the cylindrical metallic base is not coated at its end with the emitter.</p>
