The screening provides mechanical reinforcement of USB type computer socket. The electrical connector comprises an insulating box (21) surrounded by metallic screening (20). The screening is formed from a folded piece of sheet metal, with two longitudinal edges joined together. The screening also includes one or more projecting tabs (202) situated on the front of the connector and enabling attachment to a panel or chassis. The connector also includes supporting rails (211) extending down the sides of the metal box, preventing deformation of the box or the opening up of the joint along the edge. The connector is intended to be mounted on the edge of a circuit board, providing access for an external connector plug at the outside of the device casing.
