PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alternator for an automobile that reduces the risk of damaging a magnet, and can fix the magnet without requiring minute manufacturing error tolerance. SOLUTION: Two pole pieces 16 with a nib-shaped pole 10 and a magnet 20 are provided. The nib-shaped pole 10 has grooves 18 along an axial line 21, and at the same time the grooves 18 accommodate the magnet 20, and completely prevent the magnet 20 from deviating from the grooves 18 at right angles to the axial line 21. Each magnet 20 is provided with a flat plate 24 which is fitted and inserted between either an outer-peripheral surface 25 or an inner-peripheral surface 27 of the magnet 20 and at least one of the grooves 18, and the flat plate 24 is formed of a material softer than the magnet 20.
