PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a projection type display device which can be assembled by simple assembling work and of which a whole shape can be miniaturized by making components of each wavelength band of composite illumination light incident on a liquid crystal cell corresponding to a liquid crystal display panel depending on difference of incident angles of a main light to a liquid crystal display panel. SOLUTION: Light sources 42R, 42G, 42B are constituted of a laser source respectively, and emit a laser beam of the prescribed wavelength. Color separation mirrors 48B, 48G, 48R vary a incident angle of a main light to a liquid crystal display panel 9 for each wavelength band, and emit composite illumination light. A micro-lens 10 makes components of each wavelength band of composite illumination light incident on a liquid crystal cell corresponding to the liquid crystal display panel 9 depending on difference of incident angles of these main lights for the liquid crystal display panel 9. That is, an optical system can be shared with these illumination lights by varying incident angles of the main light for the liquid crystal display panel 9 for each wavelength band, and whole constitution can be simplified.
