PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit quartz glass devitrification and prolong the life of electrodeless discharge lamps whose arc tube of quartz glass is hermetically charged with indium bromide(InBr) as a luminescent substance. SOLUTION: An electrodeless discharge lamp 1 comprises an arc tube 2 of quartz glass or the like, which is hermetically charged with, as luminescent substances, such metal halide of the same elements and of different composition ratios as indium bromide(InBr) 3 of an oxidation number of one and indium bromide (InBr3) 4 of an oxidation number of three and with, as trigger gas, such rare gas as argon(Ar). InBr 3 and InBr3 4 are each so sealed in that indium(In) is slightly smaller than bromine(Br) in molality.
