PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder which facilitates continuous recording of music into a MD easily from a plurality of CDs into a MD while it is capable of setting only one CD at a time. SOLUTION: A system controller 4 reproduces a music data per music recorded in a CD housed at a CD section 10 while the music data being reproduced is recorded into a MD housed at a MD section 20 in 'simple recording' mode. The system controller 4 stops the reproducing operation at the CD section 10 and the recording operation at the MD section 20 when detecting that the reproduction of the music data ends while unloading a tray carrying the CD outside the apparatus to allow the replacing of the CD. The system controller 4 restarts the reproducing operation at the CD section 10 and the recording operation at the MD section when detecting that the tray carrying the CD is loaded into the apparatus.
