PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance a light utilization factor by condensing read-out light in the effective area of a picture element electrode which is effectively used and to attain high luminance and contrast. SOLUTION: The oriented film of a spatial light modulating part is formed from the diagonal direction F1 of the picture element electrode 161, and the pitch of the unit lens 8e of a hologram lens array 8R is set to be same as the pitch of the picture element 161 of a picture element electrode layer 16, and also the unit lens 8e possesses a focal distance to execute condensing at an effective area other than the discrimination area of the picture element electrode 161. A projection display device by which the deterioration of the light utilization factor caused by the irregular reflection of the read-out light is prevented and the luminance and the contrast of which are high is obtained. |
