TENSION MEMBER AND OPTICAL FIBER CABLE USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the flexibility and the workability at the time of cable laying without damaging the characteristics necessary as a tension member of the optical fiber cable, such as formability of a round cross section and the prevention of the occurrence of a buckling even if it is bent. SOLUTION: The tension member made of a fiber-reinforced resin is used as the tension member 1 of the optical fiber cable. The tension member 1 is formed by using a thermoplastic resin as a matrix resin for bundling reinforcing fibers. The matrix resin which is 100 to 1500 kg/10 minutes in MFR(melt flow rate) which is the value obtained in the flow test (test temperature 190 deg.C and test load 21.18 N) of thermoplastic stipulated in JIS K 7210 is used as the matrix resin.
