PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To supply a digital image forming device which automatically selects a paper feeding tray with the recording material of an optimum size and forms an image in a position that is easily viewed. SOLUTION: A printer 20 as a device has an image processing means 1 developing received image data into bit map data of a printing image, a page storage means 2 storing developed bit map data at every page, an image area detection means 3 detecting a minimum rectangular area covering the aggregate of dots from bit map data, a paper feeding tray selection means 4 selecting a paper feeding tray with the recording material of the minimum size among the recording materials of sizes larger than the rectangular area detected by the image area detection means 3 from the plural paper feeding trays, and an image forming means 5 forming the image of bit map data in the rectangular area detected by the image area detection means 3 in the recording material with the selected paper feeding tray.
