PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain occurrence of fogging by incorporating silver halide chemically sensitized emulsion in the presence of an isothiazolin-one compound, and adding it to this compound after deposition of an emulsion. SOLUTION: The silver halide photographic element contains the silver halide emulsion chemically sensitized in the presence of the isothiazolin-one compound represented by the formula, and this compound is added after the deposition of the emulsion. In the formula, R1 is a substituent, preferably, embodied by an optionally substituted aliphatic, such as a 1-3C alkyl group, or an aromatic group, such as a phenyl group, or a heterocyclic group, such as an at least one N-containing 5- or 6-membered ring; and Z is an atomic group containing a carbon atom necessary to form an optionally substituted nonaromatic ring, preferably, such as an optionally substituted 5- or 6-membered nonaromatic ring.
