A fabric drawl off device for a flat bed machine comprises a vertically movable beam 8 with grippers 7 extending across the machine beneath the knitting region 5. The beam is in two parts pivotally mounted, for opening and closing the grippers, in shoes 10 slidable on vertical guides 11 and is partly counterbalanced by main counterweights 20 suspended by a pair of chains 13, 17, 21, one end of each of which is anchored at 22 and the other end of which passes over a sprocket 15 and is coupled to the shoe 10, additional counterweights 25, 26, 27 are supported on adjustable brackets 28, 29, 30 so that as the main counterweights rise due to the fall of the beam 8 they pick up the additional weights in succession to compensate for variation in tension due to narrowing of the fabric. A motor (33) Fig. 1 (not shown) and an electromagnetically operated clutch (36) are provided for raising the beam to its top position and are controlled by limit switches (41, 46) at the top and bottom positions of the beam respectively. The grippers (7) are automatically opened at the bottom position by engagement of pivoted fingers (51) on the beam parts (8, 8) with studs (50), Fig. 6 (not shown), on an adjustable bracket (48) which also carries the limit switch (46). When the beam reaches its upper position the grippers are closed by the top surface of the parts (8, 8) engaging on adjustable abutment (59), Fig. 4 (not shown). A spring catch (55) locates the two parts of the beam in the open and closed positions of the grippers (7).</p> |
