PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a multi-viewpoint image encoding method by which precision in model information is enhanced without increasing the processing amount and which makes multi-viewpoint image with high quality transmittable. SOLUTION: The multi-viewpoint image encoding method is the one for generating an encoding stream by multiplexing encoded model information which is generated by making a subject into a model and prediction error information of a prediction signal which is generated from model information against respective viewpoint images. In this case, the shape of the subject is estimated (step 802). An angle made by a normal direction from the area of a subject surface and the direction of line of sight is obtained at every block concerning the respective viewpoint images based on the estimated shape, the angle is judged with threshold and a model block to be adopted as the model (step 803). The coordinates in three-dimensional space of representative points in the model block are calculated based on the estimated shape (step 804). Information on the luminance of the model block and information on the calculated coordinates are encoded and, then, model information is generated (step 805). |
