PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a manufacturing cost, and reduce weight without deteriorating strength and rigidity of an outer shell member. SOLUTION: This torque converter is composed of a pump impeller 3 integrated at least with an impeller shell 2, a turbine runner 4, a stator 5 and a front cover 6. A flange 7 and a ring gear 10 for a starter which take in engine power are arranged on an outer peripheral part of an outer shell component composed of the impeller shell 2 and the front cover 6. A pilot boss 32 to be fitted to a crank shaft 8 of an engine is formed on a shaft center part of the front cover 6. A sleeve-like oil pump driving shaft 20 is arranged on the shaft center part of the impeller shell 2 for driving a pump 18. In such a torque converter, a pilot boss 32 of the front cover 6 is integrated by plastic processing. The flange 7 is integrated with a front portion of an outer periphery of the front cover 6, by the plastic processing, so as to form a thicker wall section. |
