PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color television camera capable of easily and surely correcting white balance. SOLUTION: Gate circuits 7-1, 7-2 and 7-3 are provided on the output of white balance amplifiers 6-1, 6-2 and 6-3. From the respective video output signals 16-1(G), 16-2(R) and 16-3(B), an optional part in one line period of them is taken out and turned to partial video signals 23-1(G), 23-2(R) and 23-3(B). With 23-1(G) as a reference, by the level comparison of 23-2(R) and 23-3(B), gain signals Rg and Bg for white balance adjustment are calculated and the gain of the white balance amplifiers 6-2 and 6-3 is controlled. By changing the timing of gate signals 19 to be supplied to the gate circuits 7-1, 7-2 and 7-3, the optional part in one line period is taken out and turned to the partial video signal, and just by the presence of a white object in a part inside an image pickup visual field, the white balance is automatically obtained.
