The invention relates to a method and device for controlling a targeted thermal deposition into a material, preferably into a biological tissue, comprising a unit which generates ultrasonic waves and which injects ultrasonic waves into the material. The inventive device is also comprised of a unit which detects ultrasonic waves and which detects the ultrasonic waves leaving the material, and of an evaluation unit which generates proposition parameters on the basis of the detected ultrasonic waves. Said parameters provide information concerning the thermal and structural changes within the material. The invention is characterized in that the ultrasonic waves leaving the material are detected in a time or location-resolved manner such that, in the evaluation unit, the detected ultrasonic waves are temporally resolved and are analyzed according to the degree of their change in propagation time with regard to the ultrasonic wave signals stemming from detected ultrasonic waves that were reflected on the material before the thermal deposition. The analyzed detected ultrasonic waves are used as a basis for a three-dimensional delimitation of structural changes within the material which appear in the path of the thermal entry, and an input of energy necessary for thermal deposition is controlled per period in the material according to a treatment objective in the material and to the detected structural changes in the material.
