A pressed microporous heat insulating body is based on finely divided metal oxide, opacifier, inorganic fibers and inorganic binder and containing xonotlite. A microporous heat insulating body consists of a pressed heat insulating material containing 30 - 90 wt.% finely divided metal oxide, 0-30 wt.% opacifier, 0 - 10 wt.% inorganic fiber material and 0-15 wt.% inorganic binder, the material also containing 2-45 (5-15) wt.% xonotlite. The xonotlite is a synthetic xonotlite produced e.g. as described in GB1193172 or EP231460.
