<p>A system (10) for applying an article (50) to the interior surface of a flexible package, which includes application of articles (50) to a flexible web of packaging material (16) at a point along a web feed path which minimizes likelihood of article separation downstream. The present system includes a driving system for pulling a web of material (16) through a feed path, a tube former (30) having an inlet positioned along the feed path for receiving the web of material (16) and an article applicator (18) for applying articles (50) onto an interior package surface of the web of material (16) at the inlet of the tube former (30). The article is delivered to the web downstream of the upper edge (36) of the tube former (30) minimizing inadvertent separation of the article (50) from the web passing over the upper edge (36) of the tube former (30). The present system utilizes a receiving gap (72) in the tube former (30) and a guide wall (74) for assisting in application of the article (50) as the tube is formed.</p> |
