The connection system enables production of a signal to indicate when the plug has been correctly inserted. The connection system includes a male connector (2) attached to a cable, and a female connector (1) which may be mounted in a panel. The female connector has an aperture to receive the male connector. At the side of the aperture, the female connector has a seating to receive two conductive metal tongues (13,14), one of which has a bent portion projecting into the aperture in the path of the male terminal. Introduction of the male terminal presses the two contacts together, enabling production of a signal which can be used to detect the insertion of the connector.
