<p>The present invention uses a continuous extrusion-compression molding method to make optical articles such as lenses (24) whereby a polymer melt (21) is fed from an extruder or melting apparatus (22) to a first die (20) of a plurality of rotated or conveyed sequentially processed compression die sets (25) comprising a first die (20) and a second die (23). The die sets (25) are positioned on die supports (19) on a rotating turntable (11) or conveying system, the lenses (24) formed by compressing the die sets (25) with pressing means (13) associated with each die support (19), the lenses (24) separated from the dies (25) and the dies (25) recycled to die loading and the melt feed step of the process. The process is repeated until a desired number of lenses (24) or other optical articles such as compact disk substrates are produced.</p> |
