The ultrasonic test machine (1-16) checks the soundness of roller bearings. Each roller bearing has an inner and/or outer bearing ring and a number of cooperating rolling elements, the rolling surface incorporating a non-metallic insert with a length of less than 500 microns, with a depth of up to 2 % of the mean diameter of the rolling element from the surface of the bearing ring. An Independent claim for an ultrasonic testing method for testing a roller bearing is also included.
