The method uses computer-aided evaluation of the images provided by at least 2 IR cameras, for providing 3-dimensional position information for an object located in a space viewed via a video camera, used for insertion of positioning reference marks or a positioning reference structure within the video image displayed on a monitor. An Independent claim for a device for verifying the correct positioning of an object is also included.
