Guides(5,6) in the seat back are mounted with limited rotatability around a common transversely extending pivot point. To initiate pivoting movements in the sense of a forwards displacement of the headrest(8) a pressure plate(10) extends over the whole contact area of the back of the seat's occupant. The upper end of the pressure plate extending close to the guides, following the lifting of a lock(14) conditioned by a rear end collision, experiences a rearwards displacement conditioned by the inertia of the seat's occupant and which is transmitted to the guides.
