<p>A supplemental locking member (130) for securing large shipping containers (100). The supplemental locking member (130) includes a securing member (136) that is adapted to be positioned underneath a surface of the container (100) such that the weight of the container (100) retains the supplemental locking member (130) in a position adjacent the doors of the container (100) so that the doors of the container (100) cannot be opened unless the supplemental locking member (130) is removed. In one embodiment, the supplemental locking member (130) includes an elongate barrier member (132) that is attached to the securing member (136) such that, when the securing member (136) is positioned immediately adjacent the door of the container (100) to thereby prevent the door from being opened. In one embodiment, a retaining member assembly (142) is attached to the elongate member (132) and is adapted to allow for installation onto a container (100) while the container (100) is elevated and retained in this position until the container (10) is positioned onto the ground such that the weight of the container (100) rests upon the securing member (136) and prevents removal of the supplemental locking device (130).</p> |
