If an operating button (12, 14) is pressed in the learning mode, the movable wall panel(s) (6,7,8), which are currently open are stored in the respective memories, the button is assigned, and the learning mode is ended. The balance has at least two movable wall panels (6, 7, 8) which can be manually or motor operated. Operating buttons (12,14) have respective memories for storing which wall panels are to be opened or closed. A detector is provided for each wall panel which detects manual operation of the wall panel by the user of the balance. If one of the detectors is triggered, a learning mode is switched on. In the learning mode, if an operating button is pressed, the movable wall panel(s) which are currently open are stored in the respective memories, the button is assigned, and the learning mode is ended.
