<p>A prostate implant planning engine (unnumbered) for radiotherapy is disclosed in which a system for optimized intraoperative treatment planning for prostate brachy-therapy is achieved. This system works on a real time basis using a synergistic formulation of a genetic algorithm, multi-objective decision theory, and a statistical sensitive analysis to form a total solution for prostate seed implant brachy-therapy. The figure is a flow chart describing the process that this invention follows. The seeds (unnumbered) are ordered first (304) to save time during the procedure. Then the seeds are calibrated (306). The patient is then set up in an operating room, and a TRUS volume study is carried out, followed by intra-operative PIPER seed planning (316). The implantation is carried out with the assistance of TRUS, and VRML (320). Finally, post-implant dosimetry is carried out (314) to ensure that the target tissue receives the proper amount of radiation.</p> |
