The guardrail (3) has a series of posts (4) spaced a predetermined distance apart; at least one shaped strip (5) with three ridges; a rail (46) located over the shaped strip (5) to withstand impact by heavy vehicles with a high center of gravity; and a wheel rail (72) to prevent the wheels of light vehicles from jamming beneath the shaped strip (5). Each post (4) is connected to the upstream post (4), in the traffic direction of the lane, by a horizontal top strut (63); the last post (4), in the traffic direction, of each module (7) is connected to the upstream post by a vertical bottom strut (67).
