The invention relates to an fiber optic monitoring device (100) with which fiber optics can be permanently monitored for their operability. Said device comprises the following parts: at least one sensor unit (1) consisting of an emitter control unit (5) with an emitter (6) which emits light into a first end (31) of at least one fiber optic (30) and a detector (7) which is connected to a second end (32) of the fiber optic (30) for receiving the light emitted by the emitter (5) into the fiber optic (30), said light being reduced in intensity by the damping effect of the fiber optic (30), and for converting it to a voltage signal which can be amplified by a measuring amplifier (8) which is coupled to the detector (7), at least one control unit (10) which converts the output signal of the measuring amplifier (8) to a frequency-modulated measuring signal, at least one bus controller (20) which is connected to a bus (200) which transmits the measured values.
