1,027,012. Valves. LOCKHEAD AIRCRAFT CORPORATION. Jan. 15, 1963 [Jan. 22, 1962], No. 1737/63. Heading F2V. A valve comprises a flow passage 12, a butterfly valve 14 mounted in the passage, and a valve noise suppressor comprising turbulence creating means 21. In the preferred embodiment, the means 21 consists of an arcuate plate 28 having a plurality of rows of pins 29 of variable length to permit the valve to be opened without interference and extending over an arc of approximately 45 degrees. A second turbulence creating means 20 consisting of a plurality of rows of pins 25 of equal length is secured to the valve 14 by an arcuate angle plate 22 and also extends over an arc of approximately 45 degrees. The pins prevent valve noise by ensuring that the fluid boundary layer at the valve throat never alternates between laminar and turbulent flow. The valve may control the outflow from an aircraft cabin and may be of the gate instead of the butterfly type.
|
