Optical semiconductor amplifier with adjustable stabilised gain and optical system using the same

The stabilized gain mechanism has an optical semiconductor amplifier with an active waveguide (150) together with a surrounding laser oscillator structure. The amplifier has command inputs (Ep,Ea) which allow the gain of the semiconductor amplifier, and hence the output power level to be adjusted to a set level.
