PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize good combustion characteristics by switching injection characteristics of fuel according to the operating conditions. SOLUTION: This fuel injector is provided with a fuel pressure accumulating chamber 9 for accumulating fuel in the high pressure state, pressurized by a fuel supplying pump 1, and an injector 14 for injecting high-pressure fuel from the fuel pressure accumulating chamber 9. The injector 14 is provided with a needle valve 19 to be opened as a lift when it receives high fuel pressure. The fuel injector is provided with a selector valve 18 for selectively connecting or shutting a fuel passage 16 for linking the injector 14 and the fuel pressure accumulating chamber 9 to each other and a controller 50 for controlling a pressure control valve 25 for controlling pressure of a pressure chamber 22 of the injector 14 and the selector valve 18. The controller 50 switches between an injection mode for controlling fuel injection by opening or closing the pressure control valve 25 as the selector valve 18 is opened and an injection mode for controlling fuel injection by opening or closing the selector valve 18 as the pressure control valve 25 is opened. |
