PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gasification process using a methanol-mixed coal slurry which allows little loss in calorific value, is inexpensive and allows use of young coals. SOLUTION: In a gasification process using a coal slurry having a coal concentration of from 50 to 80 wt.%, a coal 1 is mixed with water 2 and methanol 3, a portion or all of water in the coal slurry is substituted by methanol to yield a methanol-mixed coal slurry 5, and the methanol-mixed coal slurry 5 is supplied to a gasification burner in a gasification furnace 8 to carry out gasification.
