PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an insulated wire which has an insulation layer formed from a compsn. which can be extrudable well, can be colored and printed, has high flame retardance, tensile properties, and heat resistance required thereof, and is free from problems with the elution of heavy metal compds. in landfilling in disposal or free from the problems with the generation of a large amt. of smoke or a corrosive gas in incineration. SOLUTION: This insulated wire is prepd. by covering a conductor with a crosslinking product of a compsn. comprising 100 pts.wt. polymer component which is an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (a) or a mixture thereof with a polyolefin (b), 165-250 pts.wt. metal hydrate (c) surface-treated with a silane coupling agent, 3-9 pts.wt. benzimidazole-type antioxidant (d), and 1-6 pts.wt. phenol-type antioxidant (e).
