INK RIBBON POSITIONING SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink ribbon(IR) positioning system for identifying various positions of a color ink ribbon in a color printer. SOLUTION: An ink ribbon(IR) 42 having a plurality of dye blocks 44 arranged sequentially is contained in an IR container while being wound wherein each dye block 44 comprises transparent color frames 46 arranged sequentially for predetermined number of different color dyes. The ink ribbon(IR) positioning system comprises a power supply, and an identifying unit for detecting a light beam passed through the IR 42, identifying the position of the dye block in the IR 42 and the color frame 46 in each dye block based on the output voltage from a photosensor 64 and generating a corresponding position signal. The light beam 66 of specified color exhibits different transmittance to the dye block 44 and the position of each dye block 44 and the color frame 46 in each dye block 44 is identified based on the output voltage.
