PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a highly reliable head having small substrate size at low cost by providing a signal drive circuit for driving an ink ejection heater arbitrarily and selectively at a corner part of a substrate and a signal processing circuit independent therefrom thereby eliminating ineffective area. SOLUTION: Ink supply holes 501, 502 are made through a semiconductor substrate 400 mounting ink ejection heaters and units 430, 431 each having a circuit required for ejecting one kind of ink are disposed on the opposite sides of the supply holes 501, 502 along with a heater peripheral circuit block 420. The units 430, 431 are arranged at a corner part of the substrate 400 such that any other signal processing circuit than a heater selection circuit unit is not present between the end part of the substrate 400 and the units 430, 431. Heater selection circuits 101, 102 are two kinds of signal processing unit other than the units 430, 431 for selecting an arbitrary heater and one functional unit is implemented by one arranging unit.
