PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system for a vehicle capable of identifying a plurality of signals transmitted from the portable apparatus side to the vehicle side. SOLUTION: On the vehicle 2 side, a request signal 1 of a magnetic signal is transmitted to a vehicle exterior side communicable area A, and a request signal 2 of a magnetic signal different in frequency from the request signal 1 is transmitted to a vehicle interior side communicable area B. On the portable apparatus 4 side, the received request signals 1, 2 are discriminated by the frequency difference to send answerback signals of radio signals containing different ID codes to the respective request signals 1, 2. On the vehicle 2 side, the answerback signals 1, 2 are identified by the difference of the ID codes to control a vehicle door into an unlocked state in the case of the answerback singal 1 and to control steering into an unlocked state in the case of the answerback singal 2.
