PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove contaminant from an ink cartridge without causing any damage or abrasion on an orifice plate for ejecting ink. SOLUTION: The orifice plate 90, 92, 94, 96 of an ink cartridge 72, 74, 76, 78 is provided with a piezoelectric element and debris is stripped off by operating an ultrasonic transducer 80, 82, 84, 86 operable at high frequency. The debris is removed by discharging ink above a dust container 98 and then wiped off by means of an absorbing element 91, 93, 95, 97. |
