PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety gate installed in a staircase or the like, through which children or infants can not pass. SOLUTION: A hinge 28 detachably received in a hinge bracket fixed to one side wall is provided at one end of a gate, and a swing stopper supports the gate so as to be swingable only to one side. A gate assembly 20 is composed of two parts of gate pieces 21, 22 which are provided with horizontal upper support rods 37, 38 respectively. Low frictional sliding blocks are provided between an opening face slot in one upper support rod and an opening face slot in the other upper support rod and retained by brackets 48 so that they can transfer relatively. The free end of the gate is provided with a manual latch engaging with a latch bracket installed on the other wall, and the gate is fixed in between the walls at the stretched position.
