PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic tool exchanger capable of reducing the lateral width dimension of a machining center. SOLUTION: This automatic tool exchanger includes a tool rack 15 provided in a tool magazine 11, having vertically arranged plural tool pots 19 with a tool T oriented substantially parallel to a spindle 57 of a machine tool 51 in a single line and stored; a tool moving means 13 for moving the tool pot 19 where the tool T is mounted in the directions of X, Y and Z-axes between an automatic tool exchange position TC between the tool magazine 11 and the tool machine 51 and the tool rack 15; and a tool exchange arm for exchanging a tool between the automatic tool exchange position TC and the spindle 57.
