A thin-film capacitor is manufactured by depositing, e.g. by cathodic or vacuum sputtering, a layer 12 of film-forming metal on a substrate 11 of glass or ceramic, forming a dielectric oxide layer 13 on the metal surface by anodic oxidation, applying a manganese dioxide layer 14 to the dielectric layer, optionally re-anodizing, depositing a layer 15 of graphite and finally a counter-electrode 16. The manganese dioxide layer is preferably applied by heating the body in a substrate holder to 250-500‹ C., and spraying an aqueous solution of manganous nitrate. It is stated that because of the presence of the manganese dioxide layer, the substrate need not be smooth, and that this is more important than its conventional function in electrolytic capacitors.</p> |
