PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the operability in attaching or detaching a head cartridge with respect to a carriage. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises a carriage for mounting a head cartridge 15 having an ink-jet recording head for ejecting an ink onto a recording medium for recording to be scanned with respect to the recording medium. Components, such as the carriage, of the image forming apparatus are stored in a housing, which comprises a cover to be opened or closed for allowing replacement of the recording head from the outside of the housing. The image forming apparatus comprises a cover sensor 25 for detecting the open/close state of the cover, and a head I/F circuit 16 for detecting the attaching/detaching state of the head cartridge 15, or the problem of the head cartridge 15. |
