PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject complex having a soft texture, excellent in dispersibility and capable of providing a colored substrate having a relatively high color density and/or a higher lightness and useful as a pigment formulation by including a specific compound as a guest compound. SOLUTION: This complex in its state of the tautomeric structure is a metal complex of an azo compound according to the formula [ring X and ring Y have each O, S or the like as a substituent group and the sum total of endocyclic and exocyclic double bonds is 3; R1 to R4 are each H, an alkyl, a cycloalkyl or the like; R5 is OH, an alkyl, a cycloalkyl or the like; (m), (n), (o) and (p) are each 0 or 1]. The metal complex accepts at least one compound as a guest compound and the complex has <250 dispersion hardness.
