PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a vertical crack in a central core upon manufacturing a corrugated cardboard employing a corrugater. SOLUTION: In a single facer for a corrugater for manufacturing a corrugated cardboard, a tension meter 15 is installed between a driving roll 3, nearest to the entrance of the inlet port of step rolls, and a next step roll 8 to measure the inlet tension of a central core in the step rolls. A speed ratio with respect to the central core running speed of the driving roll, nearest to the entrance, is changed so that the measured tension will not exceed a preset tension, in which a vertical crack will not be generated.
