PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antibacterial composition having synergetic antibacterial activity, harmless to organism, capable of reducing strong fragrance or bitter taste or the like originating from extract oil of plants or the like by jointly using extract oil from specific plants and extracts of tea leaves or cacao beans. SOLUTION: This antibacterial composition includes (A) one or two or more kinds of components selected from the extract oil and their constituents (preferably menthol, menthone, neomenthol) obtained from plants belonging to genus mentha(preferably peppermint) as active components, and (B) one or two or more kinds of components selected from the extract of tea leaves, cacao beans and their constituents (preferably polyphenol e.g. catechin, epicatechin or the like), as active components. This composition includes 0.0025 to 5 wt.% of the component (A) and 0.005 to 5 wt.% of the component (B), and preferable their weight ratio is 50:1 to 1:50. This composition manifests antibacterial properties to enteropathogenic Escherichia coli O-157 or the like, useful for food and drink, antibacterial agent or the like. |
