PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer capable of properly feeding recording paper between a thermal head and a platen. SOLUTION: A guide plate 18 is arranged between a thermal head 12 and a carrying roller pair 9. The guide plate 18 guides so that a color thermosensible recording paper 2 enters between a platen roller 13 and the thermal head 12 by projecting into the inside of a carrying passage and making contact with the color thermosensible recording paper 2 when the platen roller 13 is at a paper feeding position to separate from the thermal head 12. In the case when the platen roller 13 moves to a printing position to make contact with the thermal head 12, it is pressed by support plates 15, 16 and lowered and retreats from the carrying passage of the color thermosensible recording paper 2.
