PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for dehumidifying and drying a granular material using a carrier gas substitution capable of building a distributed processing system by putting advantages of the substitution into a practical use to a maximum limit. SOLUTION: A granular material heated in a heating hopper 1 is sequentially supplied to a drying hopper 10. In the hopper 10, the supplied material is stored, and the stored material is heat insulated and pressure reduced in the state that the hopper 10 is sealed to generate a miscellaneous gas. Simultaneously, a carrier gas regulated at a humidity, a temperature or the like is externally forcibly introduced from an inlet 13 into the hopper 10, and gas containing the miscellaneous gas is exhausted out of the hopper 1 by a gas exhausting means 14, thereby humidifying and drying the material.
