PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject culture medium composition capable of efficiently culturing a bacterium of the genus Bordetella and increasing volume of production of pertussis toxin and fibrous hemagglutinin by including polyethylene glycol (lower alkyl etherized derivative). SOLUTION: This culture medium comprises preferably 0.01-40 g/L polyethylene glycol (e.g. lower alkyl etherized derivative) having 2,000-4,000,000 average molecular weight and further preferably contains preferably 0.001-2 g/L etherized derivative of D-glucose polymer such as methyl cellulose or preferably 0.001-5 g/L cyclodextrin (derivative) such as methylcyclodextrin. Furthermore, bacterium of the genus Bordetella is preferably cultured in a culture medium composition containing polyethylene glycol (lower alkyl etherized derivative).
