PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a unified interface for an engine control system and/or another sub-system freely usable by executing the functions assigned to control units by the detection of operation parameters necessary for these functions to form control values for various operating devices. SOLUTION: An engine control stem 10 for example, is connected to individual control systems or sub-systems 18-22 through a line system 24 to information- exchange the control function between control systems. At this time, a basic value is preset to the working point of an internal combustion engine, and at least one correction value is preset depending on at least one another operation characteristic parameter. The fuel quantity to be injected is determined on the basis of the basic value, at least one correction value and the torque to be transmitted, or the torque to be transmitted is determined on the basis of the fuel quantity to be injected.
